Battle of the Brushes 2016

Bring your creativity, your brushes, and your competitive spirit. The artist is provided with a blank canvas on an easel, in a 4-foot square area, a palette of acrylic paints and 30 minutes to create.

Participating artists, please sign in at the SSAC registration table by 10:30 am to be ready for the first round of battle
Again, this year we are located at Mill St. and the river’s edge of the Boyne River, behind Details -North side of Victoria Street in Downtown ALLISTON.

Once again, musical entertainment will be provided; Tara Tuma courtesy of the Alliston Business Improvement Association.

ROUND 1
Start time is 11:00am for 30 minutes (20 Artists)

ROUND 2
Start time is 12:00pm for 30 minutes (20 Artists)

FINAL ROUND
Start time is 1:00pm for 30 minutes (4 artists being the top 2 finalists from Round 1)

Silent Auction to follow at approximately 2:00 pm

The # of rounds shall be dependent on the # of artists registered.
An example being with 40 artists registered there would be 2 Qualifying Rounds
and 1 Final Round
2 winners from each round (4 finalists) will compete in the FINAL round for the grand prize of $500.00 and SECOND prize of $250.00 contributed by the Alliston Business Improvement Association.
Between rounds and after the final round paintings are displayed for a silent auction
Funds raised are donated to the South Simcoe Arts Council.

GUIDELINES:
Artists must supply their own brushes, palette knifes, cups or any other mixing/painting utensils desired.
Artists will be supplied with a blank 18" x 24" canvas on an easel, running water will be available.
We will supply 5 colours of paint, 3 primary, white and black.
You will be given 30 minutes to create.
Things you may want to bring; rags, sun hat, sunglasses, plastic bag to take utensils home. If you have a stand up easel please bring it along for stand-by.
Artists can certainly plan their painting in advance however no reference materials to look at during the event, this is what creates the wonderment of the audience watching. No pencils, No masking tape.

The completed canvas will go up for silent auction and is property of the South Simcoe Arts Council, all proceeds go to the South Simcoe Arts Council.

VOTING:
One vote per person
$2.00 per vote ticket, this includes a total of 5 votes - 2 votes for round 1&2 and one vote in the FINAL round.
All proceeds go to the South Simcoe Arts Council.

RULES:
Play fair and have fun.
Respect the neighbouring artists space.
Subject of painting, keep in mind this is a family event.
Artist not to supply additional paint colours or mixed media supplies.
No pencils or writing implements. No masking tape.
Please empty dirty water and/or unused paint into the buckets supplied.
Please take all your utensils with you when finished, a bucket of water will be supplied for cleaning.

In the event of a 3-way tie (or more) in rounds one and two, all 3 artists will compete in the FINAL round.
In the event of a 2-way tie (or more) for FIRST place in the FINAL round of competition, the total sum of $500.00 will be evenly split between the artists.
In the event of a 2-way tie (or more) for SECOND place in the FINAL round of competition, the total sum of $250.00 will be evenly split between the artists.

SILENT AUCTION:
Bidding starts at $10.00.
All proceeds go to the South Simcoe Arts Council.
Payment by cash/cheque or VISA or Square.
