CONCERT SERIES AT ST. JOHN'S ~ CADENCE

CADENCE - FOUR MEN, FOUR MICROPHONES, AND NO INSTRUMENTS

On April 7th at 7:30pm at St. John's United Church in Alliston, the lights will dim, the crowd will go quiet and four harmonious voices will rise up and fill the air. What comes next may be a classic song by Joni Mitchell, Bobby McFerrin, Gordon Lightfoot, Sarah McLachlan, or Louis Prima. It may be an old bebop standard or a cheeky arrangement of a 1980's hit, but these are arrangements like you have never heard before, containing all the richness of a full band, but performed using just four voices.

After an extremely successful sold out concert with Canada's flagship choral ensemble, the Elmer Iseler Singers, St. John's is presenting CADENCE, Canada's premiere a cappella vocal group. Based in Toronto, this ensemble has been wowing audiences across the country and around the world for nearly 20 years. Whether performing at sold out jazz clubs, concert halls, music festivals, or corporate functions, CADENCE brings an infectious energy and uncanny verve to every song they sing.

CADENCE live shows are always a hit. They feature an hypnotic blend of complex harmonies, intricate arrangements, vocal dexterity and just plain fun. On stage antics and audience participation are par for the course at any CADENCE show. They know how to get both adults and kids involved and to make music fun. What these young men can do with their voices needs to be heard to be believed. Most imaginable instruments are there to be heard, but nowhere to be seen. As they say "instruments are for surgeons."

All of their cds have won or have been nointated for numerous awards, including three Junos and ten awards from the Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards.
