Exhibit at The Well

Hi My Name is Sara Gileo,
A couple of years ago I was lucky to meet up with a friend who wanted to dedicate one night a week for art. Art was something I had always been interested in, but had never pursued seriously. My friend had been to art school and had some amazing pieces already under her belt, so I began these “art nights” with a little bit of apprehension. Soon enough, the intimidation I felt from staring at that blank art paper went away and I was planning two, three and four pieces ahead into the future. I couldn’t paint fast enough. I learned a lot through trial and error and in the beginning had many “do-overs” that found their way into the trash instead of on a wall. But each failed piece was a learning curve that helped shape a future piece, and I’m happy that I’ve stuck with it despite the obstacles.

I use pan pastels for all my pieces, which is essentially a chalk pastel that is compacted into a small dish and applied to the paper using a sponge. I like this medium because of the soft look it gives to a piece, and also because the set-up and clean-up is so much easier than paints.

Art may have been a minor interest for me before, but now I can’t keep it off my mind. I’m excited to keep expanding and growing as an artist and hope to try different mediums, new subject matter, and even new styles.
