Exhibits & Events - Arts in Our Community Submissions, Exhibits, & Purchase - Valerie Losell

Twelve years into "Life After Injury", former teacher and now poet and visual artist, Valerie Losell continues to delight in finding ways to manifest her admiration for everyday life in the visual languages of watercolour, pastel, pen and ink drawings, and the written language of poetry.

With the close collaboration of her photographer husband, Andre Beneteau, she exhibits regionally and sometimes further abroad, and sells her original work as well as cards, prints and her book of art and poetry written for it, called HOLDING UP THE SKY: 33 PAINTINGS AND THEIR POEMS.

Most recently Valerie has collaborated with local author, Margot Edge, as illustrator of two children's picture books, FOLLOW THE RED WAGON and THE RED WAGON'S WINTER DREAM, as well as contributing a poem to the soon-to-be-published chapbook of poetry by disabled Canadian artists, THE WAY OUT IS THE WAY IN (Canadian League of Poets)

Valerie's work is available through:

South Simcoe Arts Council shop and online site;

Valerie Losell is a visual artist, children's illustrator, poet and author who exhibits regularly throughout Simcoe County. She was Barrie Artist of the Year, 2018 in the Artist Beyond Barriers category, and has won awards and prizes for her watercolour and pastel work and poetry over the last few years.

Her love of words and images was paired in a book of poetry written for some of her paintings called HOLDING UP THE SKY (available at SSAC's FortyOn: Local Art Market, at 41 Victoria St East in Alliston as well as blank art card and matted print versions of her work).

Her latest collaboration with author Margot Edge is as illustrator of FOLLOW THE RED WAGON (also at FortyOne:Local Art Market). A follow up book, THE WAGON'S WINTER DREAM is in production now and a third book in the series is in planning stages.

As a "colour junkie", Valerie's work draws viewers in with its beauty of colour, form and movement, but usually offers another layer of comment on the world to anyone open to seeing and reflecting on the composition.

All of Valerie's work is available for sale, and commissions are a welcome challenge!
