Aerial Series-Iceland of Highlands

The Aerial Series explores the idea of an unknown destination—places that exist somewhere between landscape, memory, imagination, and discovery. Each work begins without a predetermined destination. The process is intentionally unpredictable, allowing the materials to guide the direction of the piece and reveal something unexpected along the way.
Working with a complex layering of ink, oil, markers and acrylic, I build depth through overlapping textures, movement, transparency, and shifting perspectives. From an aerial viewpoint, familiar elements of land, water, horizon, and terrain become abstracted, leaving the viewer to interpret what they see and imagine where the journey might lead.
There is also a deeply personal connection to the repetition within this series. The act of the process—layering, moving, observing, and responding—creates a sense of calm and meditation for me. Repetition becomes less about reproducing the same image and more about entering a familiar rhythm while allowing each piece to develop differently. There is comfort in the process, but also freedom that no two journeys are ever the same.
The unpredictability of the materials is an essential part of the work. Fluid inks, oils, markers and acrylics interact, merge, resist, and transform, creating details and landscapes that cannot be completely controlled. Each layer becomes part of the journey, while each finished piece develops its own unique destination.
