Getting STARTED

Level: Beginner
Medium: Painting
Ages: Adult

Starting can be the hardest part. This workshop is all about learning to enjoy the moment. It's for anyone who wants to create without fear of making mistakes, to discover that the process itself is where the magic happens.

In this fun, free-flowing class, we'll explore the world of pencil drawing, painting, and brushwork. Each session is designed to help you break through barriers and discover your own creative energy with no pressure to be perfect.

You'll experiment with different techniques, materials, and methods, allowing your marks to come alive through your hands and eyes.

What You'll Learn:

Class 1: Drawing
Start simple! Using a pencil and your sketchbook, you'll dive into mark-making—dots, lines, and shapes—exploring how to use this tool to express your thoughts and feelings.

Class 2: Value
Learn how to create depth and dimension in your work using light and shadow. Through exercises focused on shading, you'll discover how to add form and richness to your drawings.

Class 3: Colour
Learn how to use the 3 primaries colours to mix your own colour wheel. You'll also experiment with complementary colours and use simple exercises to create harmonious compositions.

Class 4: stART
Now it's time to bring everything you've learned together! You'll create a small painting using your new drawing and colour skills. It's your chance to take the first step in starting a bigger creative journey, and you'll leave feeling ready to stART again.

Light and colour always shaping life. Memorable images.
I have learned from so many teachers, artist friends, in clubs across Canada, UK, and Florida as well as the Artists at the Gibson in Alliston. Virtual shows, so available today, have helped me continue to learn and improve my painting skills.

Whether landscapes, seascapes, people or animals, I love to draw, and paint. "Love Life and art." The medium I paint with most is acrylic. Other mediums such as pastel and watercolour I also enjoy.

I have had the honour of being accepted into many juried shows in Canada and the USA. I have won people's choice a number of times and sold my paintings in Canada, the USA, and England. A highlight was a sale from an entry in a juried show in Venice Florida.

My works are "memorable images" of special places and times. That is the key to all my paintings, "if it is memorable" I reproduce it in some form eventually.
