The abundant variety of delightful songbirds, intriguing waterfowl, and fascinating birds of prey in our community epitomizes Everyday Magic. The plumage, songs, perseverance, and elegance of these birds never cease to inspire me as an artist.

Working primarily en plein air in various painting mediums and in the studio as a printmaker, I use colour, shape, line, and texture to depict my observations of avian life in our increasingly urbanized communities.

This work, part of my Urban Agriculture Flora and Fauna collection of paintings funded partially by an Ontario Arts Council grant, is created entirely on location in community gardens using heavy weight acrylic on canvas. It seeks to instill calmness in the viewer while drawing attention to the vast array of sometimes overlooked birds that quietly brighten our gardens, parks, and wild spaces with their unique presence.
