Folk Songs

Solo voice - Any voice - Own choice
Traditional folk music (only that which has no recognized composer or lyricist). Performers may register for this class more than once as long as each registration is a different piece. A published folk song arrangement must be used. Max time 5 minutes.

Popular Songs

Solo voice - Any voice - Own choice.
Popular songs published 1900-present, NOT from movies or television productions. Performers may register for this class more than once as long as each registration is a different piece. Microphone will be provided and recorded accompaniment is allowed.
Max time 5 minutes

Art Songs Written and Sung in English

Solo voice - Any voice - Own choice
Any art song written and sung in English - not including folk songs or arias from opera or oratorio. Performers may register for this class more than once as long as each registration is a different piece.

Art Songs Written and Sung in a Language Other than English

Solo voice - Any voice - Own choice
Art songs written and sung in a language other than English. Performers may register for this class more than once as long as each registration is a different piece and in DIFFERENT LANGUAGES (i.e. one entry in Italian, one in German, one in French, etc). NOT to include folk songs or arias from opera or oratorio.

Sacred Song

Solo voice - Any voice - Own choice
Vocal solo with a sacred text. Performers may register for this class more than once as long as each registration is a different piece.

Art Songs by Canadian Composers

Solo voice - Any voice - Own choice
Excluding popular and composed "folk" songs. Performers may register for this class more than once as long as each registration is a different piece.

Musical Theatre

Solo voice - Any voice - Own selection
Songs from any standard musical, light opera or operetta (a song sung by a live person in a musical stage production). Performers may register for this class more than once as long as each registration is a different piece. Integrated acting, appropriate movement and suggestion of costume will enhance the performance. Please keep props to a minimum.
Max time 5 minutes.

Movie and Television Songs

Solo voice - Any voice - Own Choice
Performers may register for this class more than once as long as each registration is a different piece. Songs from standard movie and television programs. Please keep props to a minimum.

Arias from Opera or Oratorio

Solo voice - Any voice - Own selection
Arias from oratorio or opera performed in the original language. Performers may register for this class more than once as long as each registration is a different piece.
Max time 5 minutes

Two Contrasting Songs

Solo voice - Any voice - Own choice
Two contrasting songs selected from the current RCM or CC syllabi at the appropriate level of study. Performers may register for this class ONLY ONCE.

Original Composition

Solo voice - Any voice
Original composition written and performed by the composer. An electronic copy of the original score must be submitted 1 week prior to the performance. Composition may include instrumental accompaniment. LIMIT 5 MINUTES.

Open Vocal Class

Any song, any style, any age. Performers may register for this class more than once as long as each registration is a different piece.

Vocal Quick Study

Performers may register for this class ONLY ONCE. Material for these classes will be provided by the Adjudicator 48 hours before the class. Material will be appropriate for the grade level of the class entered.

Vocal Ensembles - Art Songs, Opera or Oratorio

Duets, Trios, Small Ensembles under 6 voices. Any voice. Own choice from standard repertoire of art songs, opera and oratorio. May be sung in English or original language. Performers may register for this class more than once as long as each registration is a different piece.
Max time 5 minutes

Vocal Ensembles - Folk Songs

Duets, Trios, Small ensembles under 6 voices - Any voice - Own choice. Traditional folk music only. A published folk song arrangement may be used. May be accompanied by guitar or folk instrument. Performers may register for this class more than once as long as each registration is a different piece. Max time 5 minutes

Vocal Ensembles - Popular songs, Songs from Movie/Television

Duets, Trios, Small Ensembles - Any voice
Popular songs or songs from movies and television. Performers may register for this class more than once as long as each registration is a different piece. Max time 5 minutes

Vocal Ensembles - Musical Theatre

Duets, Trios, Small Ensembles (any voice) from a Musical Theatre production.
Selections chosen from a musical theatre stage production. Music composed between 1900-present. Performers may register for this class more than once as long as each registration is a different piece. Integrated acting, appropriate movement and suggestion of costume will enhance the performance. Please keep props to a minimum. Max time 5 minutes

Vocal Master Class

Each participant will work directly with the adjudicator on a prepared piece(s) of the participant's choice. Each participant will work with the adjudicator for a certain length of time: 20 minutes for Level 4-6, 30 minutes for Level 7-8 and 40 minutes for Level 9 and above. All participants will remain for the full duration of the class.
