Orange

Orange

Yesterday's shirt hangs
on the doorknob, its folds
woven to hide my bones
like a drama class cloak.
Hills and valleys entice
more than any prairie
of flat-ironed monochrome:
rivers of umber spilling
through rayon gorges, ochre
rock-falls and crevasses,
terracotta sunrises cresting
each shoulder. Actor's prop,
sleeves like black holes
of potential. Shirttails stretch
but can't reach the floor, like
a noose swinging in the space
a body used to fill.
