Suu has been an active member of the South Simcoe Arts Council for over ten years. As a music teacher with a passion for inspiring students to excel, she first got involved with the SSAC Music Festival and joined the Music Festival committee as Vocal Chair in 2014. Suu also crafts quality jewellery from silver wire and gemstones, and participated in SSAC's early pop up markets (before SSAC moved to 41 Victoria St East). Suu is proud to have been part of the team that has grown SSAC's FortyOne: Local Art Market from an exciting idea to truly a unique and wonderful place to sell art by local artists and artisans: a gemstone in the heart of Alliston.
In 2018 Suu was invited to step into the role of Executive Director at South Simcoe Arts Council. In addition to being a wife and mom of three performers and owner of a private music studio, Suu had experience in project management and team leadership, so this was an exciting step in her career. It has been a journey with changes and growth, challenges posed by the pandemic, friendships forged and many lessons learned. Suu is grateful for the opportunity to lead an amazing team of people who share her passion for the Arts.
Suu relishes every chance to advocate for the importance of Art in our culture and community, for the benefit of every member, regardless of whether they are a professional artist, a hobbyist or a dabbler. Suu firmly believes with all her heart that we are all created to create, and Art is for All.
With a heart rooted in the arts, Vanessa began her journey at 14 and never looked back. Her career took off at a South Florida museum, where she transitioned from volunteer to an admin role where she got to get first hand experience with how art galleries operate. She later applied her organizational skills to various roles, including coordinating and teaching children's afterschool art programs.
With a passion for supporting meaningful causes, Vanessa has a soft spot for nonprofit organizations, where she can combine her administrative expertise with her love of community-driven initiatives. As an artist, she expresses herself through vibrant digital and analog collages, selling prints at outdoor markets and online.
