This collection of paintings is a study of line in the landscape. I approach painting intuitively, relying on the moment and how the medium reacts to the surface. There is a wonderful spontaneity that occurs as I paint and work with colour and line.
I am always perplexed by the edge of the canvas and how that line can limit the work. With many of these paintings I play with the edge of the canvas and the boundary it tries to establish. I enjoy seeing how the line may create space, movement and wander through a painting taking the viewer on their own experience in the moment.
Joanne Lomas BFA
Joanne Lomas a longtime resident of Simcoe County primarily focuses on landscape in her work. An enthusiastic camper, hiker, and traveler, she delights in discovering her environment through painting and photography. Her approach is intuitive, dependent on the spontaneity of the moment and the medium's response to the surface. Joanne paints abstractly, infusing subtle hints of the familiar, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in their own experience. She employs Photoshop features as if they were traditional paints and brushes, crafting highly modified images from her original photographs, which are then printed onto metal panels. She shows across Ontario in various art exhibitions.
