Circle Series -

This work from the Circle Series explores the tension between submersion and suspension, permanence and drift. This piece is titled Underwater - At its core is a metal mattress spring structure—an object typically associated with rest and the body—now transformed through encasement in ceramic and surrounded by sculpted marine forms. Rendered entirely in white, the piece evokes the visual language of something long submerged, as though time itself has bleached and preserved it beneath water.

The springs, once functional and grounded, become fossil-like—caught in a state of quiet endurance. Around them, ceramic sea objects accumulate, suggesting both growth and entrapment, as if the environment has slowly claimed the structure. The monochromatic white acts as a temporal freeze, a way of holding a moment outside of decay or change, like a photographic imprint of immersion.

Encased within a transparent plastic shield, the work resists its own weight. It appears to float, suspended in a state that contradicts its material density. This creates a subtle disorientation: the object feels both anchored and adrift, held in a liminal space between sinking and rising.

Within the Circle series this piece reflects on cycles of containment, erosion, and transformation. It considers how objects—and by extension, bodies—are shaped by the environments they inhabit, and how time alters not only their surfaces but their meanings. The work becomes less about what is seen and more about what is held in suspension: memory, pressure, and the quiet persistence of form.
