Donna loves animals and other forms of wildlife, particularly birds. Born in Guelph, Ontario, she grew up assisting her veterinarian dad in a rural farm practice and later in his small animal clinic. She developed a talent for drawing his 'patients'!
In 1974 Donna and her husband, Ellis, moved to the family's 50 acre farm in Schomberg, Ontario where they raised organic beef, bred peacocks, and fed thousands of wild birds. They provided duck nesting boxes in the farm's kettle lakes and grew flowers and vegetables over a period of 43 years. They now live near Cookstown, ON.
She taught high school Computer Science for 30 years. After retiring from her teaching career, Donna began painting what she grew in the garden in precise watercolor botanicals, progressing to farm animals and bird subjects. She especially loved painting her own cows, dogs, cats, and fowl. She paints "portraits", close up head shots in a realistic style and now uses mainly oils.
Donna is a member of Kaleidoscope, a group of six York Region artist friends. She was previously the Treasurer of the Schomberg Horticultural Society for six years and the Treasurer of Botanical Artists of Canada for four years and membership chairman of the Society of York Region Artists.
In 2014, 2015 and 2021 Donna showed in the "McMichael Autumn Art Show" in Kleinburg, and in many "Studio Tour King", "Schomberg Street Gallery" and other shows.
