They say a picture is worth a thousand words.
This spring SSAC has ushered in a new collaborative exhibit between our Visual Artists and Writers. Compelling and evocative images inspired stories and poetry of joy and sorrow, fear and longing.
Both the images and the accompanying writing will be shared in store, online, and featured here in our blog throughout the next seven weeks.

I Have Your Back
by Mary Penner
From the moment we met, we took to each other like "flies on the butter" as my Mother used to say. The years have passed quickly, filled with fond memories of our life together. Our travels have taken us many places around the world. There was Venice, then Paris, Munich, London, and other cities, where we walked and explored, taking in the different cultures.
Whether we were abroad or at home here in Alliston, we enjoyed walking many miles together. I used to hold your hand, but now I hold a cane….a sign of my aging knees. You walk unassisted slowly and carefully, as your balance is not what it used to be.
I am reminded of something I once professed to you shortly after we were married.
"Ruby, I will always have your back. That is my promise to you."
You looked at me, with a twinkle in your eye and said, "Paul, as long as you do, I know you are behind me one hundred per cent. Please don't ever stop."
We have had many a chuckle over that conversation.
Now, with more than sixty years of walking together, Paul lovingly looks ahead at Ruby and says to himself, "I still have your back."
Thank you for reading! We hope you enjoyed this instalment of 1000 Works. Please stop by our store to enjoy the art in person if you have a chance.
