Our play-reading weekend opens this Thursday, May 30th. Each session will present a different set of plays. These readings are lightly rehearsed readings of a variety of works: some old, some new, some rare, some challenging. Mystery is abound on the Lavinia, a luxury ocean liner, launching for the first time in the summer of 1928. The young American hero, Kate McGrew, is on a search for the owner of a mysterious purse containing an ominous warning note.

This is a great opportunity for young artists to show their work in a gallery setting and have it professionally adjudicated. Visual art of all mediums are welcome.

For 15 years, the South Simcoe Arts Council has been showcasing the talent of local visual artists in our annual Arts on Main Juried Exhibition. During this time we have been proud to display many thoughtful and skilled pieces which have conveyed artistic interpretation in a variety of mediums.

BUS STOP includes an abundance of songs by famous artists such as Adele, Miley Cyrus, Queen, Cindy Lauper, and many others. The songs are performed in Sugartones unique style of a cappella, with instrumental imitations, theatrics and rhythmic effects.

Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film, Shrek The Musical is a Tony Award-winning fairy tale adventure, featuring all new songs from Jeanine Tesori (Thoroughly Modern Millie; Caroline, or Change) and a sidesplitting book by David Lindsay-Abaire. Shrek brings all the beloved characters you know from the film to life on stage and proves there's more to the story than meets the ears.

Our annual outdoor event is always an exciting time for artists and spectators alike.

This 30-minute 'People's Choice' painting competition is a staple on the SSAC calendar and with cash prizes up for grabs each year it brings people out from all over our county and beyond. Only 40 participants will be allowed to battle it out and spots are given out on a first come first sereved basis. We reccommend registering in advance to secure your entry in the battle. Cost of registration is $5.

Joanie Hebbes (a.k.a. J.C. Kavanagh) is holding a launch event at the Alliston Potato Festival for her latest novel Darkness Descends, the sequel to her first book, The Twisted Climb.
