For 15 years, the South Simcoe Arts Council has been showcasing the talent of local visual artists in our annual Arts on Main Juried Exhibition. During this time we have been proud to display many thoughtful and skilled pieces which have conveyed artistic interpretation in a variety of mediums.
Arts on Main 2019 – Our Home: Our Earth is pleased to announce two of this year’s adjudicators: Jill Price and Derek Wicks.
Jill Price, former curator of Quest Gallery in Midland, is a Canadian artist and educator. Price achieved her BFA at the University of Western Ontario and recently completed a MFA in Interdisciplinary Art Media and Design at OCAD University in Toronto, Ontario. A recipient of a 2016 SSHRC national research grant, a 2017 Michael Smith Foreign Study Bursary, and receiving the 2017 Research and Writing Award for her research on how textiles environmentally and socially impact geography, Price is currently pursuing her PhD in Cultural studies at Queens University. Also a trained educator with the Ontario Teacher's Federation, Price balances her studio practice by working as a Curator and teaching.
Derek Wicks is an internationally acclaimed nature and wildlife artist. Having begun his career as a technical illustrator, Wicks’ work depicts North American animals and the softer landscape worlds of waterfalls, barns and rural life. 'I love to paint and adore nature, it was only natural to combine the two and let it be the leading force that guided my direction in life.' His commercial success led to many opportunities to represent Canada through coin design for the Royal Canadian Mint and the Olympic Lucky Loonie in 2016 for the Olympic games in Rio. Wicks thrives on sharing his expertise and teaching through workshops and his video series.
Applications Deadline: August 22nd, 2019.
