From The Pianist’s Toolbox: Techniques for Effectively Practicing The Music of J.S. Bach

In this workshop, pianist and Bach enthusiast Dr. Penny Johnson will identify valuable tools for thinking contrapuntally. Using the composer’s Inventions and Sinfonias as a point of departure, participants will explore the hierarchy of intervals found in Bach’s music, as well as the ways in which texture and patterning play a role in creating musical structures. The workshop will not be without a wealth of demonstrations, designed to show effective practice techniques for ensuring independence of fingers and critical listening skills.
