The New Tecumseth Singers and The Dufferin Concert Singers are excited to present G.F. Handel's Messiah, under the direction of Johannes Wervers, with orchestra and soloists. This well-known oratorio has become one of the best known and most frequently performed choral works in Western music.
Messiah is based on the King James Version of the Bible and has three sections. Part one of the text begins with the prophecies of the Isaiah and others, and moves to the annunciations of the shepherds (the only scene taken from the Gospel). In Part two, Handel concentrates on the Passion and ends with the Hallelujah chorus. In Part three, the resurrection of the dead is covered and Christ’s glorification in Heaven.
At its core, Messiah is a filled with the message of redemption, hope, peace and joy. In a time when our world and indeed our country is experiencing turbulence and conflict, music with a positive message for humanity is critical. Every performance of Messiah is an act of optimism and belief in the future.
