This character from the past brings intrigue and joy to those that remember the old times.
Deep into one of the Italian towns where you could buy a house for 1 euro one can see craftsmen and artists expressions still alive and well.
In the 1930s, Calcata's fortified historic centre was condemned by the government for fear that the volcanic cliffs the ancient community was built upon would collapse.
In the 1960s, the historical centre began to be repopulated by artists in its medieval stone and masonry structures.
The town has a thriving artistic community described as what "may be the grooviest village in Italy, home to a wacky community of artists, bohemians, aging hippies and New Age types."
