Current Exhibits - Kathy Melanson

Apr 13, 2023 - Jul 13, 2023

Kathy is a visual artist with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Windsor. Almost since Kathy has picked up a pencil, she has been drawing. This love of the line and its expressive qualities has lately been the underlying structure in her new abstract paintings. Expressive, painted abstracts usually start with a line drawing on canvas or most often on vellum which then gets torn up and collaged down on the substrate. Next comes the decisions of colour and the painting technique both of which are largely an intuitive process. Layers upon layers are laid down and spritzed and scrubbed off and drawn through which eventually results in a completed work. There is an element of history and archeology with older layers peeking through. The final work has a 'feel' often which is hinted at in the title, but still leaves ample opportunity for the viewer's creative interpretation.
Kathy's artistic adventure includes painting, drawing and printmaking. She has won several awards for her work. A lover of nature and the outdoors, inspiration often comes from our precious planet.
An active member of the local art scene for at least two decades, she lives in Alliston, Ontario.
