"The inspiration for my abstract paintings are rivers. If you walk alongside a river, you will know what a magical place it can be! The sparkle of the sunlight on the water, the sound, the dragonflies that fly around, animals and fish splashing. Rivers are truly magical and we must protect their health and freedom for they are living entities in their own right!
I love to investigate the river's sinewy shapes in an imagined landscape of form, texture and colour, using acrylic paint, hand-painted collage papers and crayon."

Artist Bio

Kathy's new works are Land Based Abstracts, inspired by the land in which she lives and often has ecological themes. These colourful abstracts explore the elemental energy of the waters and earth, referencing rivers and land.

Kathy says of her work, "My process involves layering many layers of paint, collage, drawing and texture all combining to create a composition that speaks to me in some way. It is an intuitive process, often hard to articulate in words. My inspiration is the land - the layers of earth, trees, rocks, rivers and history - and I endeavour to create a new world reassembled from these disparate parts."

Kathy's artistic adventure has included painting, drawing, printmaking, teaching, murals and set painting. A lover of nature and the outdoors, inspiration comes from our precious planet.

Kathy has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Windsor and has been a practicing artist, winning many awards, for over 30 years. She lives in Alliston, Ontario.
