Alan James T. Bain CSPWC SCA OWS
Alan has specialized in watercolour paintings from boreal Canada. These unique regions have been an integral part of his life, as a geologist and as an artist. His paintings, characterized by strong colours, bold contrasts and crisp initial drawings, are an authoritative reflection of a land he loves.
His paintings have won numerous awards and are sold and circulated internationally. He maintains an active schedule of 4-6 exhibitions each year including Ottawa, Shenkman in Orleans, Toronto, Brockville, Gananoque, Algonquin Park and participated with Apples and Art.
In 2018 Alan and his wife Audrey exhibited "Together through the Years" at MVS Gallery, Brockville.
In 2019 they exhibited "Weathering Sentinels" in Cornwall's Cline House Gallery.
Alan is an Elected Member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour, the Society of Canadian Artists and a Fellow of the Ottawa Watercolour Society. While President of OWS, Alan brought international artists to Ottawa in a CSPWC/OWS Teaching Artists' Symposium.
Alan has served the arts in many ways. His memberships in Arts groups across Eastern Ontario, allowed him to bring new ideas to Cornwall, among these a proposal for an Arts Centre. He served on the Committee which established Cornwall Regional Art Gallery and on Boards of Directors for CRAG, Focus Art and Seaway Arts Council. He helped write Constitutions for Seaway Arts Council and Focus Art. He has developed and shares, in workshops, a process for painting, then varnishing, watercolours on hard surfaces.
Since 1989 Alan has taught watercolour classes for St. Lawrence College, enrichment classes for S.D&G. School Board, for CRAG, and, during winters at St. Matthews Lutheran Church, regular classes for Seniors.
From 1995 to present Alan has taught weekly watercolour classes for adults, winter and summer classes for St.Lawrence College and numerous workshops across Canada.
