Learn how to combine art and science to make your unique cards by using the cyanotype process.
Cyanotype is an alternative photographic printing process that uses UV light from the sun or a UV lamp to create images. With this simple chemical process and materials found in nature, you can experiment and create unique Prussian blueprints on various types of paper. Each print will be one-of-a-kind, perfect for framing, gifting, cardmaking, collage, or mixed media work.
What you will learn:
• A brief history of cyanotype, as well as viewing examples to spark your creativity.
• All the steps required to create your cyanotype prints.
• How to create different compositions and use objects to add visual interest to your prints.
• Identify potential problems and avoid basic errors with these tips.
Previous knowledge is not required.
Note: Cyanotype printing is VERY weather-dependent. If the workshop day is predicted to be cloudy, we will do the workshop indoor using UV lamp.
Location: The Make Space room at FortyOne: Local Art Market, 41 Victoria Street East, Alliston

Artist Statement
"Since I can remember, I have been fascinated by creating new things and exploring materials. I enjoy traditional crafts. That's why I love woodcuts and linocuts. In addition to my passion for woodcut and linocut, I also enjoy other different techniques such as etching, drypoint, and lithography.
Currently, I have expanded my printmaking practice to create one-of-a-kind textile, paper and glass arts in cyanotype. Cyanotype is where art and science meet. This old and magical process connects me with the past, the present, and the environment. The inspiration behind this process is the connection with the elements of nature: Earth, Fire, Water, and Air. The result is a range of beautiful Prussian blue."
