Get ready for a colourful adventure! In this hands-on workshop, young artists will become junior scientists and explore the magical world of natural pigments. Using everyday vegetables like beets, spinach, turmeric, and red cabbage, kids will extract vibrant colours — reds, yellows, greens, blues, and more — and turn them into watercolour paints.
Once their homemade palette is ready, participants will dive into painting their own unique masterpiece! Whether it's a rainbow unicorn, a forest full of creatures, or a dreamy abstract swirl, the sky's the limit when it comes to creativity.
Participants will extract the pigments from common vegetables using a small amount of water and spatulas or graters and then set aside the colours they want to use. Should they need more, they will be able to extract more during the workshop.
Participants will be able to use their acquired extraction skills and may be able to extract their own pigments at home afterwards, if the wish to do so.
The pigments extracted by each participant will be water based and can be used to paint watercolour images. At the end of the workshop we will take digital copies for each participant to keep as the pigments in the watercolour most likely will fade over time.
Perfect for curious minds who love to mix art, science, and fun!
