Adult Acting Class - The Basics of Technique

Level: Level 1
Ages: Adult

Instructor: Scott Hurst
Recommended for Ages 18+

What goes on in a Basics of Technique Class?
This Level 1 Acting Class, presented by The South Simcoe Theatre, allows the actor to develop new skills without the pressure of deadlines and audience expectations. It also allows an actor the opportunity to observe others as they make breakthroughs in a mutually encouraging environment; as one student put it, "This class is a safe place to land."

The goal of this workshop is to encourage the skill of "Believably motivated behaviour in imaginary circumstances". To achieve this goal, we do weekly exercises chosen to offer you a new skill or a new perspective; these skills can be applied immediately in your next audition or rehearsal.

Topics may include creating a character, making your location real, creating a strong relationship, voice work, and text analysis. There is minimal weekly homework, and if people would like to tackle a monologue that will be encouraged in Weeks 3 - 6.

No experience is necessary but, as each class builds on the one before it, regular attendance is highly recommended.
